Iphone 5 charging problem - Malware virus.

Hello Guys.

I have a big problem with my Iphone 5 and i think it has something to do, with the recent discovered malware charching virus. http://edition.cnn.com/2013/06/03/tech/mobile/hack-iphone-charger

It started a few weeks ago when my old charger was broken, and i was in big need. I borrowed my friends charger, which was a "fake" cheap one. It worked perfectly the first few days, but then suddentlig it would not charge. When im charging it shows "the full battery symbol", but it aint full and it aint charge. It goes slowly to 0%. Then its out of battery, but the "lightning symbol" shows. Anyway it still doesnt charge and suddently its just black and completely out of battery. Then i can wait for 6, 12 and sometimes even 24 hours and then its turned on again. Maybe its charged for like 60% and the full charged battery appears. Sometimes it works normal, but then suddently its like described at the above again. I have bought a new charger and tried my friends chargers, but still the same problem. I send it for rep. and they did some research, but they could not find any problems with the battery. However i got a new Iphone 5 because of a speaker problem at the phone. I started the new iphone "as a new iphone", because i feared it was something with my apple ID or something. It still doesnt work and i have tried nearby everything. Therefore i think its some virus as described in the link, but i still dont know what to do. If anyone has the same problem, have an idea or knows how to erase a malware charging virus at iphone 5, PLEASE help.

I really hope for a genius in here.

Air France could cut 3,000 more jobs: union

PARIS (Reuters) - Air France could cut up to 3,000 more jobs as part of parent group Air France-KLM's latest cost reduction plans, a union said, as Europe's weak economy thwarts the carrier's turnaround efforts.

The company said on Friday that it would unveil new measures in the autumn, including voluntary departures, at Air France's medium-haul business, as well as industrial and commercial initiatives, although it did not give details.

"The figure going around is between 2,500 and 3,000 job cuts," Didier Fauverte, general secretary of the CGT union at Air France, said on Tuesday, adding that this would take total job losses to 10,000 over four years.

An Air France spokesman declined to comment on the figures.

Air France-KLM had already renegotiated pay and conditions with airline staff, cutting 5,122 jobs and restructuring its network to cope with soaring fuel costs, a worsening cargo business and tough competition from Gulf and low-cost carriers.

The carrier said on Friday that while measures already taken had enabled its medium-haul and cargo businesses to improve their operating results, it was not sufficient given "weak economic conditions".

The new cost-cutting plan is expected to be outlined in broad terms to unions at a meeting on Wednesday, followed by a detailed briefing on October 4. The measures would be implemented in early 2014.

A second union source, who declined to be named, said around 2,000 to 2,200 of the job cuts would affect ground staff, with the rest involving cabin and flight crew.

Shares in Air France-KLM were 0.3 percent lower at 6.074 euros by 1441 GMT. The stock has lost around a fifth of its value in the last two months.

Stocks rise modestly as company earnings increase

NEW YORK (AP) ? Stocks rose modestly in midday trading on Wall Street Tuesday after several big companies turned in solid earnings.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 32 points, or 0.2 percent, to 15,554 as of noon Eastern Daylight Time.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up five points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,690. Seven of the index's 10 industry sectors rose, led by technology stocks.

The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite rose 28 points, or 0.8 percent, to 3,627. Apple, the biggest component of the index, rose $8.49, or 2 percent, to $456.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber jumped $1.70, or 10 percent, to $18.74, the biggest gain in the S&P 500 index, after reporting that its second-quarter earnings more than doubled. Sales in Latin America rose sharply. Pfizer and Masco also rose after reporting earnings that were better than investors were expecting.

Jim Dunigan, chief investment officer of PNC Wealth Management, said investors have been encouraged by a recent pickup in mergers and acquisitions, including Monday's blockbuster deal combining Publicis Groupe and Omnicom Group to create the world's largest advertising firm.

The resurgence in corporate deals "gives investors confidence to make purchases at these levels," Dunigan said. "When you see others buying, it gives people a sense that they're not making a mistake."

Traders were also keeping a close eye on the Federal Reserve. The central bank began a two-day policy meeting Tuesday.

The Federal Reserve has been buying $85 billion in bonds every month to keep interest rates low and encourage borrowing and hiring. The Fed has said it might start to pull back on the stimulus later this year if the economy continues to improve, but the timing remains uncertain.

The Fed has also kept its benchmark short-term interest rate close to zero and has said it would stay there until the unemployment rate dips below 6.5 percent. The rate currently stands at 7.6 percent.

Crude oil fell $1.42 to $103.12 a barrel in New York. The price of gold fell $3.30 to $1,325.10 an ounce. The dollar edged higher against the euro and the Japanese yen.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note inched down to 2.59 percent from 2.60 percent the day before.

Among other stocks making big moves:

? Pfizer rose 42 cents, or 1.5 percent, to $29.97 after the pharmaceutical company reported that its income more than quadrupled, helped by the sale of its animal health business.

? Masco jumped $1.33, or 6.7 percent. The home furnishings company posted earnings that beat the forecasts of financial analysts as the company benefited from a surge in home construction.

? Time Warner Cable fell 94 cents, or 0.8 percent, to $114.26. The giant cable company is enmeshed in a nasty fee dispute with CBS over programming fees and is threatening to pull the broadcaster off its systems.

? Coach slumped $5.26, or 9 percent, to $52.59 after the upscale handbag maker reported a 12 percent drop in fourth-quarter profit as its home market of North America remained weak. Coach also said two more executives were leaving the company.

Microsoft Xbox One to Offer Free Unlimited Cloud Storage

I feel like this will be limited to game saves, profile settings, and small data items.

I doubt they'll let you store a full game on the cloud. I'm thinking that if you want a game on the cloud it will work similarly to Steam. In that the game isn't stored on your personal cloud, but that you can download the game anywhere if you happen to already own the license.

But who knows... maybe they will. That'd be an insane amount of bandwidth they'd have to deal with though.

DTM to return to China in 2014

From press release

The DTM will stage a race in China again in 2014. DTM rights holder and promoter, ITR e.V., and the Chinese Brilliant Culture Group have agreed upon a race for the international touring car series in a Chinese metropolis next year.

This round is to take place in the autumn of 2014, but, other than in 2010, will not be the final round of the season. The venue is yet to be decided. The decision whether the DTM will again be racing in Shanghai, or in Guangdong in the south of China, also known as Canton, will be taken at a later stage.

The DTM already raced in China in 2004 and 2010, each time in Shanghai. In 2004, Gary Paffett won an invitation race from his fellow Mercedes-Benz driver Bernd Schneider and Audi driver Mattias Ekstr?m. In 2010, Gary Paffett again won the race, but second place from Timo Scheider (Audi) was enough for his Mercedes-Benz teammate Paul di Resta to secure the title. While Audi and Mercedes-Benz have already raced in China, the race in 2014 will be a premiere for BMW.

Moto X gesture-tastic camera app makes cameo in leaked APK

Moto X gesturetastic camera app makes cameo in leaked APK

We already know the Moto X (and Droid Ultra, MAXX and Mini) camera app will feature a minimalistic, gesture-based UI, but the clever souls over at Android Police went one step further and recently leaked an APK of the app. The file (later pulled and cached here) installs just fine on many devices but lacks some functionality. We tested it on a Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) and it worked okay, mostly. HDR and slow-motion video recording are disabled, panorama mode crashes and Quick Capture (double-twist your wrist to launch the camera) is not operational.

Still, the camera UI is ultra simple -- swipe right for the settings, left for the gallery, up /down for zoom; tap to capture, and hold to take multiple shots. The resulting pictures (16:9 aspect ratio) look pretty much like those snapped with the stock Android camera, and suffer from the same composition issues since the viewfinder crops the right edge of every image. It'll be interesting to see if any of this changes when we finally get our hands on the Moto X next week. Until then, check out the gallery of screenshots below and sound off about the APK in the comments.

Weekend Gaming: Riptide GP 2 - Android Community

Weekend Gaming: Riptide GP 2

Earlier this week the developers at Vector Unit released the follow up to what is possibly still one of my favorite games to show off mobile gaming. And that is Riptide GP. Tuesday the developers finally released the much anticipated Riptide GP 2 with tons of new tricks, improved graphics all around, and plenty of water-filled racer tracks. All you fans will certainly want to give this a try.

Screen Shot 2013-07-27 at 10.56.28 AM

Tuesday they released Riptide GP 2, and for full details and a preview of it running on the high-powered NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core be sure and check out our hands on coverage. Now that we?ve had almost the entire week to enjoy this brand new game, there?s no doubt that it?s better than the original, and should surely be the game you play all weekend long.

Riptide GP 2 a high-speed jetski action racing game and everything about it has been improved over the original. From realtime lighting, enhanced graphics and more this will show the true graphics power of today?s mobile gaming. We have full online multiplayer modes, a new career mode, 9 different jetski?s that are highly upgradable, 25 different tricks and stunts, and full support for new Google Play Games services. That means leaderboards, achievements, inviting friends to your races and much more.

unnamed4

Riptide GP 2 appears to support almost every Android device that?s been released as of late, just don?t expect top-tier graphics if you have an aging device. For those with a powerful Galaxy S4 or HTC One, it should have no problems, and playing it on my new Nexus 7 has been awesome on the full HD display. Vector Unit improved the graphics with high-res support for 1920 x 1200 tablets like the Nexus 7, and did a lot of work to make things even better when used on an NVIDIA Tegra 4 device like the upcoming NVIDIA SHIELD.

This game will surely be one we use to test graphics and performance for months and months to come, and the gameplay makes it 100% worth the price too. So how much? It will run you $2.99 to enjoy this high octane, fast-paced, water racing game to the max. A few other suggestions for the weekend of gaming is True Skate, and the newly updated Cut The Rope with tons of new levels. Enjoy any previous weekend games from the timeline below, then get Riptide GP 2 and fire up those engines!

Millions rally in Egypt, responding to army call

CAIRO (AP) ? Called out by the army, the largest crowds in 2 1/2 years of upheaval filled Egypt's streets Friday, while ousted President Mohammed Morsi was formally placed under investigation on a host of allegations including murder and conspiracy with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Morsi's supporters also showed no signs of backing down, though they turned out in vastly smaller numbers. The demonstrations in Cairo were mostly peaceful into the evening. But by late Friday night in Cairo, police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of Morsi supporters near a sit-in they held for weeks, setting off clashes that lasted into early Saturday morning ? in a possible sign of a new intolerance for marches that block city streets. A field hospital doctor said seven protesters were killed and hundreds injured.

In the city of Alexandria, seven people were killed and over 100 were injured in clashes between supporters and opponents of Morsi, officials said.

The announcement by prosecutors of the investigation against Morsi, which is likely to pave the way to a formal indictment and eventually a trial, was the first word on his legal status since he was deposed by the military July 3. Since then, the Islamist leader has been held incommunicado in a secret location.

Both sides tried to show how much public support they enjoy. But the millions who turned out for the pro-army demonstrations overwhelmed the streets in multiple cities in Egypt, including some that rarely seen any rallies since the 2011 uprising.

Throngs of people turned out in Cairo's Tahrir Square and in other cities, answering a call by army chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who urged them to give him a mandate to stop "potential terrorism" by supporters of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood.

Portraits of the smiling el-Sissi in sunglasses dominated the crowd in Tahrir and one near the presidential palace across town. Posters with his picture were emblazoned with the words "the love of the people," and demonstrators wore small photos of him around their necks or carried a picture of his face on an Egyptian one-pound note.

Security was heavy after el-Sissi vowed to protect the rallies from attacks by rivals. Tanks guarded one entrance to Tahrir and police were stationed at other parts.

"The army is here to protect the people. They don't lie," said Ezzat Fahmi, a 38-year-old in the crowd. He said el-Sissi called the rallies "so the entire world can see that the Egyptian people don't want the Brotherhood anymore."

El-Sissi's plea came at a time when the political standoff with Morsi's supporters showed no sign of resolution. It raised speculation that he may be planning a crackdown on the toppled president's allies, who have held a sit-in outside the Rabaa al-Adawiyah Mosque in Cairo and near daily rallies elsewhere in the capital for three weeks.

The rallies have often turned violent, with more than 180 people killed this month. The Morsi supporters and opponents blame each other for the bloodshed, and people in both camps have been seen carrying weapons.

The unrest, as well as claims that Islamist groups are stockpiling weapons and escalating attacks against troops in the Sinai, were used by the country's new military-backed rulers as a basis for demanding popular support.

The interim leader, Adly Mansour, told the private TV station al-Hayat that his government seeks to include everyone, but it will not accept lawlessness, blocked roads and attacks on state institutions. He urged the pro-Morsi protesters to go home, promising they won't be pursued or arrested.

"I can't negotiate with whoever has committed a crime. But those who were duped or those who want to belong to Egyptian society, we welcome them," he said. But he added: "The state must interfere (against lawlessness) firmly."

Not long after the speech, police moved in quickly to break up a crowd of Morsi supporters marching on a main overpass in Cairo near the pro-Morsi sit-in, firing tear gas. Clashes with security forces ensued as protesters tried to extend their sit-in beyond the mosque into a main boulevard.

Witnesses said police forces fired birdshots and live ammunition at the crowd in clashes that lasted for hours. Field hospital doctor Alaa Mohammed said seven people were killed, most of them shot in the head and chest, including a 19-year-old. He said two other protesters were in critical condition, and hundreds were injured.

Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim told a private TV station that the sit-in at the Rabaa mosque will be removed by legal means. He did not elaborate but said residents of the area have filed police reports against the encampment.

Police spokesman Hani Abdel-Latif told The Associated Press that 53 pro-Morsi supporters were arrested around Egypt on Friday in possession of weapons, ranging from knives to homemade guns.

El-Sissi deposed Morsi after four days of huge protests by millions of Egyptians demanding the removal of the country's first freely elected president following months of disagreements between him and the largely secular opposition.

The accusations against Morsi are connected to a prison break during the 2011 uprising against autocrat Hosni Mubarak. Gunmen attacked the Wadi el-Natroun prison northwest of Cairo, freeing inmates, including Morsi and about 30 other figures from the Muslim Brotherhood. The prosecutors allege Morsi and the Brotherhood worked with Hamas to carry out the break, in which 14 guards were killed.

Egypt's MENA news agency said Morsi was being investigated over allegations of collaborating with Hamas "to carry out anti-state acts, attacking police stations and army officers and storming prisons, setting fire to one prison and enabling inmates to flee, including himself, as well as premeditated killing of officers, soldiers and prisoners."

In recent months, a court in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia has heard testimony from prison officials and intelligence officers indicating Morsi and his Brotherhood colleagues were freed when gunmen led by Hamas operatives stormed the prison.

Morsi supporters called the investigation politically motivated. Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Ahmed Aref said the move showed "the complete bankruptcy of the leaders of the bloody coup."

Brotherhood officials have said they escaped when local residents broke into the prison to free their relatives and that they had no knowledge of it ahead of time.

Hamas has consistently denied any involvement in the jailbreak. A spokesman for the militant group, Sami Abu Zuhri, condemned Morsi's detention order as "an attempt to drag Hamas into the Egyptian conflict."

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki expressed deep concern about reports of Morsi's detention.

"I can't speak to the specific charges. But we do believe that it is important that there be a process to work toward his release," she said. "Clearly, this process should respect the personal security of him and take into account the volatile political situation in Egypt and that's where our focus is. We have conveyed publicly and privately that his personal security and treatment is of utmost importance."

MENA said Morsi has now been formally detained for 15 days pending the completion of the investigation. It did not say whether he would now be moved to a facility where he could receive family visits.

The head of the prison authority, Maj. Gen. Mostafa Baz, said he has not yet received orders for Morsi's transfer to any of his facilities. The news agency indicated that Morsi has already been interrogated.

Egyptian institutions lined up behind el-Sissi's call for Friday's pro-military rallies, reflecting the extent of antagonism against the Brotherhood's hold on power in the past year.

State TV and most of the private broadcasters showed the pro-army rallies in various cities around Egypt, including aerial footage provided by military helicopters. Nationalist songs and parts of el-Sissi's speech in which he called for support were played throughout the day.

On Friday evening, TV networks stopped running soap operas that are wildly popular during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. In a further show of support, church bells rang out during evening prayers when hundreds of thousands of protesters broke their Ramadan fasts. Interim Prime Minister Hazem el-Belbawi participated in the rally held outside the presidential palace.

A giant banner stretched across an entrance to Tahrir Square, the cradle of the 2011 uprising. It read: "The people, the source of all power, mandate the army and police to purge terrorism."

Three tanks guarded another street leading into the square, and helicopters swooped overhead.

"We have no parliament. Today is a quick referendum to support el-Sissi against the Brotherhood, whose members are terrorists," said Mohammed el-Shaer, who stood in Tahrir holding a portrait of the general in a golden frame. El-Shaer held the hand of his 10-year-old daughter, who was dressed in a military fatigues.

He called the rally a "popular referendum" on el-Sissi.

In eastern Cairo, tens of thousands of Morsi supporters at the Rabaa mosque sit-in chanted against el-Sissi and vowed to continue their push for the president's reinstatement. Others marched through some neighborhoods of Cairo.

Their rallies were mostly covered on TV by Al-Jazeera Mubasher Misr, and pro-Morsi activists emailed journalists videos and links to a live feed.

"When I first heard el-Sissi's call I was anxious," said 39-year-old Sayed el-Rawi, protesting outside the mosque. "But today, we saw that his speech encouraged more people to go down in the streets. ... They won't be able to break up the sit in."

The rival demonstrations are only deepening the country's divisions since Morsi's fall.

Clashes and fistfights broke out between both camps in Alexandria, with seven people killed and over 100 injured, according to health official Ibrahim el-Roubi. Some pro-Morsi supporters took cover inside a major mosque, leading to a standoff with opponents who besieged the place, locking them inside for hours.

Skirmishes also broke out in the Mediterranean coastal cities of Damietta and Mahalla, in the southern city of Luxor, and a Cairo neighborhood that left 64 injured, Health Ministry spokesman Khaled el-Khateeb and local security officials said.

It remains unclear what steps the military is planning after Friday's show of strength ? whether it would try to break up sit-ins by Morsi supporters or attempt to arrest more than a dozen Brotherhood figures who have warrants against them.

On the front page of the state-owned Al-Akhbar newspaper, the word "wanted" in English was plastered across photos of a number of Brotherhood leaders and allies who are facing warrants. Many of them are believed to be taking refuge at the Rabaa al-Adawiyah sit-in.

The prosecutors' announcement on Morsi also could signal a greater move to go after the Brotherhood in courts. Besides Morsi, five other senior figures from the group have been detained.

Hassan Mohammed, a 30-year old teacher who came from southern Egypt to join the pro-Morsi rally, remained steadfast.

"Even if we are going to die, me and my family, we won't leave this place before our president comes back. Even if it takes seven years. We are ready to be martyrs in the name of religion and the nation," he said.

Bail for Hernandez associate set at $500,000 cash

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) ? Bail was set Friday at $500,000 cash for a so-called right-hand man of Aaron Hernandez who prosecutors say was with the former New England Patriots star on the night his friend was shot to death.

Ernest Wallace appeared in Attleboro District Court on a charge of being an accessory after the fact to murder in Odin Lloyd's killing. Defense attorney David Meier had sought bail of $10,000, arguing Wallace wasn't a flight risk and wanted to return to his family in Florida.

But Assistant District Attorney William McCauley asked for $1 million bail, saying Wallace was at risk of fleeing. He said Wallace had a long criminal history that included drug convictions and that he had used aliases and impersonated others.

Meier wouldn't comment after court, including about whether his client expected to make bail. Wallace, who had previously pleaded not guilty, was taken back into custody following the hearing. Wallace, 41, did not speak during the proceeding, but mouthed "I love you" and "I miss you" to a woman watching in the courtroom.

Prosecutors were pleased with the bail, said Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Samuel Sutter.

Hernandez, 23, has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of Lloyd, a 27-year-old Boston semi-professional football player whose body was found June 17 in an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez's home. The two men were friends and Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's girlfriend.

Prosecutors say Hernandez orchestrated Lloyd's killing because he was upset at him for talking to people Hernandez had problems with at a nightclub days earlier. They say Hernandez, Wallace and a third man, Carlos Ortiz, drove with Lloyd to the industrial park. Authorities have not said who fired the shots, but according to documents filed in Florida, Ortiz told police that Wallace said it was Hernandez.

In court Friday, McCauley painted Wallace as having no fixed address and no job and said Hernandez appeared to be his "sole support." He said Wallace has been described as Hernandez's right-hand man, and that he had been spending more time at Hernandez's house in the months before the killing, using a car Hernandez rented for him.

McCauley also said Hernandez's aunt provided financial assistance to Wallace after Lloyd's death as he made his way south to Miramar, Fla., where his parents live. Wallace later turned himself in to police in Miramar.

Friday's hearing followed the release of court documents a day earlier that included photos of Hernandez in his home, holding what authorities have said was a gun, both before and minutes after Lloyd's homicide. The photos came from Hernandez's home video surveillance system and are among evidence authorities have obtained with search warrants.

Authorities believe Lloyd was killed with a .45-caliber Glock, which they have said hasn't been recovered. Prosecutors have said that a gun Hernandez is seen holding in the home surveillance appears to be a Glock.

Authorities recovered an ammunition clip for .45-caliber bullets in Hernandez's Hummer as well as ammunition of the same caliber inside a condo he rented in Franklin, Mass.

Prosecutors this week won a delay, to Aug. 22, for a probable cause hearing for Hernandez, saying they needed more time to present evidence to a grand jury. Hernandez will continue to be held without bail.

In the course of investigating Lloyd's death, authorities found a vehicle at the home of Hernandez's uncle in Bristol, Conn., Hernandez's hometown, that was wanted in a 2012 double killing in Boston, according to the Florida records. It had been rented in Hernandez's name.

Another budget iPhone photo leaks, this time with FCC labels

So far we?ve been pretty skeptical of the budget iPhone leaks as they bear a very strong resemblance to a certain China-built Android phone. This, however, could be the money shot - the plastic budget iPhone with FCC labels on the back.

None of the other leaks we?ve seen (and there have been plenty) had such labels. The labels could, of course, be faked quite easily (especially in a blurry shot like this). Still, we?re on the lookout for official FCC docs - a non-blurry shot with the FCC ID clearly visible would be a great start.

Anyway, the rumor mill also says that this budget iPhone will be unveiled on September 6. There are other rumors that contradict this date so we'll see. For what it?s worth, the iPhone 5 was announced September 12.

Japan's PM calls for high-level talks with China

SINGAPORE | Fri Jul 26, 2013 9:25am BST

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called on Friday for a leaders' summit or a foreign ministers' meeting between his country and China as soon as possible.

Ties between China and Japan have been strained by a territorial dispute over uninhabited East China Sea islets.

Citing the importance of relations between Asia's two biggest economies, he said the talks should not have any preconditions.

Abe made the comments during a visit to Singapore and in answer to questions at an academic forum.

Abe's remarks came two days after Japan scrambled fighter jets in response to a Chinese military aircraft flying for the first time through international airspace near its southern islands out over the Pacific.

Channel 4 brings offline viewing to 4oD for Android and iOS

The UK's Channel 4 is no stranger to on-demand programming, and now it's bringing the convenience of offline viewing to the mobile version of 4oD. In the latest update for Android and iOS, registered users can download shows that aired during the past 30 days, all for free. From there, users have seven days to view the content before it expires. There's a subtle catch, as all programming must be downloaded over WiFi, from within the UK or the Republic of Ireland. Once downloaded, however, shows can be watched offline from anywhere. Offline viewing is currently restricted to the network's commissioned shows, but it's looking to add programming from other studios in the future. Consider this Channel 4's way of keeping up with the Joneses... or in this case, the BBC.

UC San Francisco researchers are recommending a combination of six comprehensive measures to prevent the spread of hepatitis C, in an effort to address the more than 31,000 young people they estimate may be newly infected with the virus each year in the United States due to injection-drug use.

The measures, which stem from a 16-year UCSF research project with injection-drug users, known as the U Find Out or UFO Study, build upon the successes of clean syringe programs and similar efforts, while recommending greater focus on the social issues behind drug use and further integration of the multiple approaches to combating hepatitis C.

In February, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) noted the rising epidemic of hepatitis C virus among young people aged 15-30 who inject drugs, calling attention to an increasingly serious issue nationwide. While data on hepatitis C are limited, the HHS estimates that as many as 3.9 million people in the United States are living with a chronic form of the disease, which the researchers said is at least 10 times more infectious than HIV. In 2007, the number of U.S. deaths associated with hepatitis C surpassed those from HIV for the first time.

Based on our UFO Study here in San Francisco, we have accumulated data that identify key strategies that, when scaled up, could substantially reduce the rate of new hepatitis C infections among young people who inject drugs, said the studys lead investigator, Kimberly Page, PhD, MPH, a professor in the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and in UCSF Global Health Sciences.

The research team examined several data sources to arrive at the new estimate of 31,000 new cases per year and identified six areas where prevention efforts should be focused. Findings appear online July 24, 2013, in a special supplement titled, Prevention and Management of Hepatitis C Virus among People Who Inject Drugs: Moving the Agenda Forward, in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases. The publication coincides with World Hepatitis Week, July 21-28, 2013.

First, while syringe-exchange programs have long been recognized as an absolutely essential element in disease prevention, giving injectors access to clean needles and syringes, the UFO Study team discovered that up to 40 percent of infections occurred from exposures to shared drug preparation containers, filters, and rinse water.

The hepatitis C virus lives a long time on surfaces and can easily contaminate various types of injecting equipment, so while expanding needle exchanges throughout the country is essential, one of our critical recommendations is that existing and newly established exchanges provide clean ancillary equipment along with needles and syringes, said Page.

Additional strategies identified in the paper include hepatitis C virus screening, testing and counseling; targeting interventions to address the social and relational contexts of injecting; injection cessation interventions to reduce risks of exposure; development of models to guide roll out of new hepatitis C treatments and vaccines; and the implementation of robust, scaled interventions in combination to synergize the effectiveness of individual interventions.

A new rapid test for hepatitis C has become available that can be delivered at the point of care with results in 20 minutes, so making that widely available can significantly improve screening, testing and counseling, said Page. Also, our research identified the value of taking breaks for both reducing the risks of exposure to the virus and helping end injection drug use.

The UFO Study looked at the behaviors associated with attempts by injectors to complete various injection cessation programs, such as 12 step or opiate substitution programs. While in these programs, exposure risks disappeared. However, while injectors frequently fail cessation programs, the UFO Study showed that the more injectors try to quit, or take breaks from drugs, the more likely they eventually are to succeed. That new data could inform how these and other treatment programs handle relapses in the future.

Often these programs are very unforgiving and relapses can lead to permanent bans, Page said. This is likely not the best tactic for reducing disease exposure risks and also may not be optimal for helping injectors end injection drug use.

Northern California water levels to hit 5-year lows

SACRAMENTO ? Federal officials say drought conditions in Northern California could bring water levels in Folsom Lake and the American River to five-year lows.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, which operates Folsom Dam, estimates that by the end of the year the lake will fall to a storage level of about one-fourth of total capacity.

The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/17xNxWM ) boat owners at Folsom Lake Marina face an August 3 deadline to vacate their berths because the floating docks will be resting on the lake bed by then.

In an average water year, boats don't have to be hauled out of slips at the marina until October.

A shrunken lake also means lighter flows in the American River, which provides water to Sacramento.

Spokeswoman Jessica Hess says the city does not anticipate any shortages this year.

Obama to meet with pro-White House outside group

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama is meeting Monday with his most loyal supporters to discuss ways to promote his agenda on issues like immigration reform and the economy as lawmakers prepare to return home for their annual summer break.

Obama was being joined by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California at a meeting of Organizing for Action, a super political action committee formed from the president's 2012 re-election campaign.

The meeting comes ahead of Congress' annual August recess, when many lawmakers return to their districts and hold town hall meetings with constituents. It was during the same period in 2009 that many tea party activists rallied against Obama's health care proposal, which the White House is now working to implement.

Democrats are trying to build momentum on issues like immigration reform, which cleared the Senate but faces an uncertain future in the House; expanded background checks for certain firearm purchases, which are stalled in Congress; and measures to curb climate change, which the president outlined last month.

Obama also plans a series of economic speeches beginning this week that will be aimed at building support ahead of upcoming budget deadlines this fall and the potential for another fight with Republicans over the nation's borrowing limit.

Organizing for Action, which is run by former White House and campaign aides, has tried to build public pressure on members of Congress to enact the president's second-term agenda. The group raised more than $8 million between April and June.

Attendees at an "Action August" summit were receiving an update from Reid and Pelosi at the meeting, along with news from Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which has been active in opposing sweeping new abortion restrictions in Texas.

Obama was scheduled to speak at the summit and then at a dinner for the organization later in the evening.

For the sake of not potentially pissing people off in the future, and I apologize if this comes off as rude as I imagine it does, but I believe you need to understand the problem in your post:

It's not a matter of simply changing the celebrity used for a face claim, because there's still a face claim.

They're not anti-Hayden Christensen. They're not anti-Dave Franco. They're not anti-Emma Stone. They're anti-face claim, which means they don't want a face claim at all. You have a good chance of sounding offensive and insensitive when you tell someone that's anti-face claim, "Well, you could always request a change of the face in the claim."

Anthony Weiner caught in another sexting scandal

(AP) ? Anthony Weiner found himself caught in another sexting scandal Tuesday like the one that destroyed his congressional career, but stood side-to-side with his wife to say that he will remain in the race for mayor of New York City.

"This is entirely behind me," Weiner said at news conference, just hours after he confirmed exchanging a newly disclosed round of sexually explicit photos and text messages with a woman online.

At the news conference, he acknowledged some of the activity took place after he resigned from the House two years ago for the same sort of behavior.

The story broke earlier in the day when the gossip website The Dirty posted the X-rated correspondence and quoted the woman, who was not identified.

Weiner turned the microphone over to his wife, Huma Abedin, who reaffirmed her support for her husband and said the matter is "between us."

"I love him. I have forgiven him. And as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward," said Abedin, a longtime adviser to former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The allegation could severely test voters' willingness to forgive Weiner, who has said he spent the two years since the scandal trying to make things right with his wife and earn redemption. Three of his rivals for mayor immediately called on Weiner to drop out of the race.

The 48-year-old Democrat, who resigned his House seat in June 2011 after acknowledging having sexual conversations with at least a half-dozen women, has been near the top of most mayoral polls since his late entry into the race this spring.

"I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out and today they have," Weiner said in a statement issued by his campaign earlier in the day. "I want to again say that I am very sorry to anyone who was on the receiving end of these messages and the disruption this has caused."

The woman with whom he exchanged the messages told The Dirty that she was 22 when she began chatting with Weiner on the social networking site Formspring. She said their online relationship began in July 2012 and lasted for six months.

She claimed Weiner used the alias "Carlos Danger" for their exchanges, but she knew she was talking to the former congressman.

The exchanges posted on The Dirty consist of sexually explicit fantasizing about various sex acts. At one point, the man reported to be Weiner wrote, "I'm deeply flawed."

The woman said Weiner promised to help her get a job at the political website Politico and suggested meeting in a Chicago condo for a tryst.

The woman claimed that she and Weiner exchanged nude photos of themselves and engaged in frequent phone sex. The Dirty ran a pixelated photo of what appears to be a man's genitals.

"This was a bad situation for me because I really admired him. Even post scandal, I thought he was misunderstood. Until I got to know him. I thought I loved him. Pretty pathetic," the woman was quoted as telling the website.

She said he later asked her to destroy the evidence of their chats. She insisted that she never had sex with Weiner or received any payment from him.

The woman claimed her relationship with Weiner "fizzled" in November 2012. She said she last heard from him this past April, when his intention to run for mayor was first revealed in a New York Times Magazine profile.

His wife, who was pregnant when the sexting scandal broke in 2011 and gave birth months later, has played a large and increasing role in his mayoral campaign. She made an appearance in his campaign kick-off video, has led his fundraising effort and recently made her debut on the campaign trail. Two weekends ago, she walked hand-in-hand with Weiner as they talked to voters on a Harlem street.

Two of his mayoral rivals ? Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and former City Councilman Sal Albanese, both Democrats, and billionaire John Catsimatidis, a Republican ? quickly called on Weiner to abandon his quest for office, as did a lesser candidate in the race.

"Enough is enough," said de Blasio. "The sideshows of this election have gotten in the way of the debate we should be having about the future of this city."

Another mayoral hopeful, city Comptroller John Liu, stopped short of calling for Weiner to bow out, but suggested his "propensity for pornographic selfies is a valid issue for voters."

The other leading Democratic candidates, including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former City Comptroller Bill Thompson, did not immediately comment on the new revelations.

The disclosure suddenly puts Weiner's indiscretions, judgment and candor back in the forefront of his campaign and could test voters' confidence in him, political analysts said.

Some voters have said they felt Weiner had atoned for his past and were willing to give him a second chance. But a third, after hearing allegations that his misbehavior continued after his resignation?

"It makes it tougher to believe this is behind him," said Democratic former state Assemblyman Michael Benjamin, now a political consultant.

But given the corps of voters who have shown willingness to forgive Weiner's prior behavior, the latest revelation may not be a campaign knockout, said Jerry Skurnik, a longtime Democratic consultant who is not working with any mayoral candidates this year.

Some New Yorkers were disappointed by the news that Weiner had apparently continued his online activities even after leaving office.

"I think he had a chance to redeem himself and if he did it twice, he really betrayed the public's trust again," said Jeremy Green, 22. "I think he's past the point of no return for New Yorkers."

The revelations come just two weeks after another scandal-scarred candidate, former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, announced his own attempt at political redemption. Spitzer, who resigned in 2008 after admitting to paying for sex with prostitutes, is running for city comptroller.

Weiner's problems began in May 2011, when a website run by conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart posted a photograph of a man's bulging underwear and said it had been sent from Weiner's Twitter account to a Seattle woman. Weiner denied he sent the photo, claiming his Twitter had been hacked.

But after more women came forward and more photographic evidence emerged, Weiner admitted he lied.

He then entered two years of self-imposed political exile, only to return this spring.

Under a huge media spotlight, he apologized repeatedly for his behavior in the initial days of his bid but then pivoted quickly into an issues-based campaign. He was largely well-received by voters and quickly established himself as a favorite in the race.
