Brenda McKenzie is a finalist to become the next president of the Baltimore Development Corp.

Brenda McKenzie, a high-ranking economic development official in Boston, is a finalist to become the next president of the Baltimore Development Corp., according to multiple sources.

McKenzie joined the Boston Redevelopment Authority in 2008 and is currently the agency's director of economic development. Prior to her time in Boston, she managed government and external affairs in Starbucks Coffee Co.?s corporate social responsibility division. McKenzie also spent 11 years working in city government in Chicago, rising to the role of deputy commissioner of the Chicago Planning and Development Department.

The city has spent the past eight months looking to replace longtime BDC President M.J. ?Jay? Brodie, who announced his plans in February to retire from the job. Brodie's last day was in August after 16 years on the job.

McKenzie declined to comment when asked if she applied for the job. Officials with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake?s office declined to comment on the search process. The search was narrowed recently to two or three top candidates, several sources disclosed.

Kimberly A. Clark, the BDC?s executive vice president, has been the BDC?s interim president since Brodie?s departure. She had expressed interest in securing the job permanently in an August interview with the Baltimore Business Journal.

McKenzie makes about $135,000 a year in her role with the Boston Redevelopment Agency. Brodie?s total compensation in fiscal year 2011 was $219,664, according to an IRS filing.

Kaliope Parthemos, the city?s deputy mayor of economic and neighborhood development, said in May that more than 50 people applied for the BDC president position. Parthemos, who is heading the search for Brodie?s replacement, did not reply to multiple requests for comment.
